Judging Competitive Diving

As swimming and diving go mostly unnoticed during winter sports recaps, mostly from the lack of knowledge people have with swimming and diving. Most do not know how scoring works in competitive diving. I like most people have no idea how it works or how to generally explain it. If you visit  iSPORT Diving before your on your way to a meet, you can have the basic knowledge on the scoring system so you don't have to sit there and question why your there.

I'm Just Writing This so I Won't Get Fined.

Who cares? Colts suck.
Going into Super Bowl weekend, scandals and headlines come as no surprise. Finally after their AFC Championship blowout against the Colts, “deflate-gate” is no longer FrontPage news on every possible site.

Marshawn Lynch
Super Bowl media day had a marvelous turnout; Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was his normal goofy self. When asked what he was guaranteeing about Super Bowl Sunday he responded the way we knew “Gronk” would, “The game will be on Sunday.” Also in attendance Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was there “so I wont get fined.”

Darrelle Revis (left) and Richard Sherman (right)
One of the biggest discussions was on, who is the NFL’s best cornerback? Seahawks Richard Sherman, or Patriots Darrelle Revis? There's a good chance the Super Bowl can settle that debate as two of the league's very best will face each other on the field. There are stats that anyone can analyze and say that Sherman is better than Revis and vice versa: Sherman had eight interceptions this season compared to Revis' two. Revis is more versatile when it comes to defensive formations, while Sherman is more of a traditional cornerback.

Rob Gronkowski, delfating a game ball.
My Prediction? Well because I can’t stand the Marshawn media madness and the Sherman “U mad bro?” antics, my vote goes to the now who really deflated the Patriots footballs, Rob Gronkowski. How would the ball not deflate? Excessive spiking power to the equilibrium of a football will cause a 2 pound decrease in air pressure.

Alec Jorns

With all the hype that comes with winter sports such as Girls & Boys basketball, diving is often looked over. Senior diver and Game day Northwest’s athlete of the week, Alec Jorns enlightened us on his experience with diving.

“I started diving sophomore year, I saw some of the kids diving at one of the meets, and one of my friends dove. So I thought I would try it out. And it’s a lot of fun.” Jorns said.

Alec and his teammates have grown a strong bond through the years of swimming and diving, and they still continue to show each other the ropes everyday.

“The team is great and everyone is fun to be around. So it makes learning new dives lots of fun, as we all prepare for the next meet.” Jorns said.

The success runs deep in the program as swimmers and divers are in reach of another accomplishing year for the record books. For any additional information and swimming updates, visit the Boys Swimming and Diving website.

Final

A New Beginning
My sophomore year marked a new interest in a career opportunity; sports broadcasting. As my sophomore year developed and I started paying closer attention the the "behind-the-scenes" aspect of Sportscenter and sporting event my interest grew stronger.  Towards the end of sophomore year i had a choice to enroll in the class again, and the decision was easy.

First Hand Experiences
At the beginning of junior year my excitement for this class was gradually increasing. Hoping to get football or even soccer for my projects, instead of something like girls golf (whoopee-doo). But out of everything with this class i was most excited for was the show and being apart of the production of Gameday Northwest, i didn't even think i would ever get on camera because of my overwhelming fear of being on camera.  The first time i was on Gameday what do i do? I do the one thing i told myself not to do, mess up. ONW...NOW! September 24, 2014.  On my 2nd appearance of Gameday Northwest Brennen Wohlford and I killed it.

My best written so far this year was the Girls Golf State Tournament Recap, well at least my best in my opinion. My interviews were pretty solid, so I'm going to continue to film well coordinated interviews.

Tri-Caster
One of my biggest learning experiences so far this year was learning the Tri-Caster. Even though i have yet to learn all the enhancements learned and all the functions Tri-Caster has to offer, it will definitely be a fun experience to do so.

Aspects of the Camera
Another learning experience from the 1st semester was learning of the camera. I knew how to turn on/off the camera and how to press recored but didn't really have any knowledge of the aspects. Along with story-telling in videos, instead of just "spray-and-pray."

Camera Shy
My biggest learning experience so far this year is overcoming my inability to stand in front of a camera and be filmed. Before this class I couldn't even stand in front of a phone and talk on camera, but with being filmed to be shown to the whole school, it changed me perception.

Goals For 2015

  •  More Hours. With only filming 15 hours this semester i plan to get the achievement of 30. Hopefully i get a sport that doesn't suck to film.
  • Better Storytelling. My stories were more like assignments, i hope to up my storytelling game.
