Judging Competitive Diving

As swimming and diving go mostly unnoticed during winter sports recaps, mostly from the lack of knowledge people have with swimming and diving. Most do not know how scoring works in competitive diving. I like most people have no idea how it works or how to generally explain it. If you visit  iSPORT Diving before your on your way to a meet, you can have the basic knowledge on the scoring system so you don't have to sit there and question why your there.

I'm Just Writing This so I Won't Get Fined.

Who cares? Colts suck.
Going into Super Bowl weekend, scandals and headlines come as no surprise. Finally after their AFC Championship blowout against the Colts, “deflate-gate” is no longer FrontPage news on every possible site.

Marshawn Lynch
Super Bowl media day had a marvelous turnout; Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was his normal goofy self. When asked what he was guaranteeing about Super Bowl Sunday he responded the way we knew “Gronk” would, “The game will be on Sunday.” Also in attendance Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch was there “so I wont get fined.”

Darrelle Revis (left) and Richard Sherman (right)
One of the biggest discussions was on, who is the NFL’s best cornerback? Seahawks Richard Sherman, or Patriots Darrelle Revis? There's a good chance the Super Bowl can settle that debate as two of the league's very best will face each other on the field. There are stats that anyone can analyze and say that Sherman is better than Revis and vice versa: Sherman had eight interceptions this season compared to Revis' two. Revis is more versatile when it comes to defensive formations, while Sherman is more of a traditional cornerback.

Rob Gronkowski, delfating a game ball.
My Prediction? Well because I can’t stand the Marshawn media madness and the Sherman “U mad bro?” antics, my vote goes to the now who really deflated the Patriots footballs, Rob Gronkowski. How would the ball not deflate? Excessive spiking power to the equilibrium of a football will cause a 2 pound decrease in air pressure.

Alec Jorns

With all the hype that comes with winter sports such as Girls & Boys basketball, diving is often looked over. Senior diver and Game day Northwest’s athlete of the week, Alec Jorns enlightened us on his experience with diving.

“I started diving sophomore year, I saw some of the kids diving at one of the meets, and one of my friends dove. So I thought I would try it out. And it’s a lot of fun.” Jorns said.

Alec and his teammates have grown a strong bond through the years of swimming and diving, and they still continue to show each other the ropes everyday.

“The team is great and everyone is fun to be around. So it makes learning new dives lots of fun, as we all prepare for the next meet.” Jorns said.

The success runs deep in the program as swimmers and divers are in reach of another accomplishing year for the record books. For any additional information and swimming updates, visit the Boys Swimming and Diving website.
